Cut caramels in half and scatter them over the apples.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the top and smooth gently.
Add butter squares evenly across the surface.
Bake uncovered for 45 minutes, rotating halfway through, until bubbly on the edges and golden on top.
